Walking The Labyrinth – Choosing Your Word

30 Wednesday Dec 2015

Once you have visited the Labyrinth at National Cathedral, and you arrive back home, look your word up in the dictionary. Find quotes relating to your word, or begin a journal with your word and take the time to remember your word during the months ahead. You will then see how it may be playing out in your life. From the very center of the Labyrinth you will take with you all the promise of your new word and the events of your new year. Namaste

Last night we visited the National Cathedral to  “walk the Labyrinth” into the New Year. It’s a great meditation practice for any time of year.  And since we posted yesterday announcing our new Yoga class, we recommend you consider walking the Labyrinth yourself. It is available the last Tuesday if every month, year round. It is free and open to walk between 6:00 p.m. and  8:45 p.m.  Be open to receiving what the spirit has in store for you over the next year while you are walking the Labyrinth

We recommend you choose one word that will guide you from this year to the next  This will be your guiding word for your walk and you can use this word in your new Yoga practice

Christmas, 2015

Happy Christmas!  We are home today working on baking, writing personal notes and preparing for “eve” services at our church.

We just opened the 22nd day on our Norman Rockwell Advent Calender, Circa 1967. It’s a vintage piece and a lovely addition to our holiday decor. We do not have a big real tree this year but a gold leaf stick tree that in previous years we had in our shop. We like the less fuss part of this, at least for this year. Blessings to all!

On December 13th our UMW held a Candle burning and prayer service for those that we have either lost, or for those for whom we are praying for “special intentions ”

UMW – Our Purpose

  • We are a  community of United Methodist Women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of our church.

It is with deep gratitude and a humble heart that I serve as the UMW current Treasurer, 2015. My personal Christian growth through relationships built in our UMW organization at Del Ray United Methodist Church has truly enriched my life  Thank You UMW!

SOLD – Decanter, Pressed Glass, Circa. 1940

SOLD today on etsy.com at ContessasHome. It’s all good.

7″ x 4″ x 2″, a lovely size for sherry. Very ornate pressed glass. Check out the detail in our pics. We love these small Decanters. Have you filled a larger decanter with your favorite cordial, only to discover later that you need to move it to a smaller vessel. How many times will it take to discover that cordials are prettier in petite container. This one is just adorable. Stopper is just ever so slightly dinged. Nevertheless less we think worth it’s price. Enjoy!

December Gardening???

imageYup!  Today we did some outdoor gardening for “Joe” a long time resident of Del Ray. It’s very hard to believe the weather we are having is conducive to gardening but the earth hasn’t frozen yet. Now is a perfect time to clean up. Beware though, we may have frosty evenings in the next couple days. Last minute flowering plants can still be brought inside, like your Geraniums. They can be repotted and placed in a sunny window. We did this at our house and ours is bringing new red flowers just in time for the holiday. It looks so lovely in our living room window.

We have decided to continue giving you gardening tips on our contessas.wordpress.com blog and push these posts to Facebook. We will make posts to provide gardening information on a monthly basis.  We have learned that we still have a local Contessa’s following. We trust you will enjoy this information as it comes along  Enjoy!

Vintage Urn Style, Porcelain, Lamp, Circa 1940

image image imageLamp, Urn style , porcelain, with hand-painted green blossoms. Circa, 1940. Base and center shaft are brass. Over the years a lovely patina has surfaced. We have cleaned it with soft grade steel wool (0000). This is your personal hint to keep it shining. Takes up to a 100 watt bulb. New shade purchased to coincide with the lamp base style. All parts are new including, socket, high quality brass harp and finial. New brown electrical cord. Yes, it is completely restored as are all our lamps at ContessasHome. When you purchase our lamps you are good to go for another twenty-five years. This one is charming. In our opinion it has an Irish lady look about it. It would be lovely in any bay window. Selling on etsy.com at ContessasHome  $125
