Today’s Tips From The Garden Contessa

We took a good walk today since we cannot garden. Being  outdoors helps to keep boredom from setting in. Since I’m a gardener, I have come up with a list of things gardeners can do to help pass the time while COVID lingers and we remain frustrated with our gloomy wet weather.

My list is in no particular order. Take what works for you.

  1. Breathe. In order to make ourselves quickly available for any emergency, we can be much more effective if we breathe and stretch.  I personally practice my Yoga.
  2. Shake. There is a growing body of evidence that shaking our bodies does wonders for our immune system. It also relieves Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms. Since massage is out of the question, try shaking your arms and legs. Go take your walk or ride your bike where it is safe.
  3. Vitamins. Take your vitamins, not just your usual multi-vitamin, but in this time of incredible stress, increase those supplements that support your immune system. Check with your medicine specialist. Vit B-12, Vit C, and Zinc are my favorites.
  4. Talk. Talk to someone even if its  through an email or a phone call. Share yourself and your stories about how things are going. Everyone is going through the same thing. We may have to adhere to guidelines for social distancing when we are out walking,  but online there is no limit to whom you can “touch” and connect with. Reach out.

I just looked at a Monday weather forecast. It looks to be sunny and 69 degrees. Something to look forward to is wonderful news and great emotional medicine.

Have a great weekend.

Spring Blessings

We took a walk yesterday. This “dwarf” Cherry Blossom was in full bloom. No taller than 5 ft. She was the sweetest thing we had seen all week.

I know today will be dreary, but put on your rain gear and take a fifteen minute walk. You can always put on dry clothing when you arrive back at home. Two days of rain may take our blossoms away. Treasure them while they are still out there. We are going out again today. You can only read so much and finally the walls begin to creep in on you. At least for us it does, and TV is not our “thang.”

I hope you will have a beautiful wet spring day.

Yes…. tomorrow we will be out and about and gardening. It will be wet but it’s the best time to pull weeds and edge beds. You can count on us being around the PFF community doing our thing.

We ALL need a little sunshine. Shame on you if you do not get outdoors. …….just remember the 6ft advisory.

Happy Gardening and enjoying some sunshine

Trifolium Repens – The Four Leaf Clover

The Four Leaf Clover is hard to find. It is the symbol of good luck for many an Irish person. We love to search for them. On average it can take up to one hour to find even one (1) in a 13 x 13 ft plot of grass. Try to be outdoors today and see if you can find a lush plot of grass to find your good luck/hope. It’s going to be a high of 80 degrees today. We encourage you to get out there and find your “good luck and your hope.”

drainage abated……,,

We completed a site visit after a week of heavy rainfall. The owner of the property could not rent the unit until the drainage issue was solved. We made “drainage abatement recommendations” and the problem has been solved by the very able Parkfairfax crew.

With a good plan and a little patience, in three weeks time – all is well. We like the end result. Call The Garden Contessa if you have the need for a recommendation. Our consultation is free of charge. Now our homeowner/landlord wants a quote on fixing up the garden beds at the property. It’s a win-win for all.
