Potting 101

Do you need the basics?  We have them at Contessa’s.  Stop by this weekend and sign up for a “free” class.  The class will be held on Saturday morning the  15th of June at 9 a.m.  If it rains, we will move to the following Saturday the 22nd.  Contessa’s opens at 10 on Saturdays so we can cover the basics in one hour.  We look forward to adding  you to our list.

Orchids at Contessa’s

Contessa’s loves orchids. We usually have a couple in the store for sale. We can teach you how to be successful at caring for your plant. They are not tricky, or complicated. Right now we have a lovely specimen in the shop. And if you are a connoisseur, we have a lovely two volume colorful book of orchids. This volume will definitely inspire you to master this plant. The orchid blossom can last up to two months or longer and some re-bloom right away. Try it, you will like it. Fertilizer, water and loving care is all you will need.

 

Contessa’s – Closed Every Wednesday

Did you know that we purchase more than half of our merchandise at local auctions. On Wednesdays we are out and about finding vintage items for the shop.  Decanters, chairs, lamps, art, small furniture, pottery, silver and glass.  If you have special requests for vintage items, please let us know.  We are always on the look out for distinctive, yet affordable vintage items.  One of our latest very cool “finds”  were a pair of vintage bamboo  chairs.  They just sold on Friday.  See you then on Thursday when we are open from Noon to 6 p.m.

Tuesday’s at Contessa’s

We are here from Noon to 6 pm every Tuesday  – By Appointment.  All you need to do is call ahead (703-548-1882) and set a time.  Basically the shop is all yours when you come by.  It’s like personal shopping just for you.   It works for you and it allows us to rearrange, dust, inventory merchandise and just work on making the shop better.   We will be glad to help you with gift selection, wrapping etc.  Try it, you will like it.

Contessa’s – Open Memorial Day

Contessa will be in the shop on Monday.  Every Monday we are here from Noon to 6 p.m.  Hope to see you soon.

Lanterns – Evening Fun

Our lanterns are back. We sold them last year and they were a huge hit. They are perfect for evening weddings or that special glass of wine on the deck, while you watch the sun setting. We have four sizes/styles. Vintage, yet modern and fun.

Metro Collection – Recycled Cotton Rugs

We have been searching for the right 2×3 rug, because you have requested it.  We have found it.

Evening Hours at Contessa’s – Five years “On The Avenue”

Did you know that in March Contessa’s had it’s fifth birthday here “On The Avenue.” We are heading into our 6th year! We are happy to continue to serve Del Ray with evening hours, Fridays and Saturdays from Noon to 8 p.m., so come by and say hi, while your out for dinner or evening strolls!

Beach Invitation for Memorial Day Weekend

If you are headed to the beach this weekend, by special invitation, consider taking a gift to your weekend host.  We have several items at Contessa’s that would make a great choice for you to take along.  We are here today, Thursday from Noon to 6 p.m.  and Friday from Noon to 8 p.m.   We will always be happy to assist in preparing your purchase for gift giving.  Contessa’s ,makes you look like a star guest.
