inOur garden is being prepared now for spring. We anticipate opening our garden area May 6-7 and 8th, during Mother’s Day weekend. REMEMBER: the rule of thumb for planting in Virginia is to plant right after Mother’s Day. Earlier than this, and you are taking your chances. While tempting to plant now, “mother nature” could have her way and you could be sorry. Pansies are available at your local nursery. You can plant them now if you feel compelled to dig in the dirt.

inContessa has secured a 1930’s petite gilt chandelier with twenty-eight crystals and one round quarter pound ball crystal in its center. This lovely chandelier is perfect for a small dining area, an entryway or….a lovely ladies toilette. We have longed to purchase chandeliers at auction and now we have a recessed permanent bracket from which to hang them. Stay tuned for more chandelier specimens. It’s an “elegant” thing to do, and we know you will love coming by to see what’s new in our dining area. This one is priced at $275 and is wired and ready to be hung in your very own home.

inFloor Lamps are always in demand. Contessa’s has two beauties in the store right now. Both are vintage specimens and were purchased at auction. These lamps are typical styles from the 1940’s and have been professionally rewired. New shades have been purchased.
Lamp #1 has a wooden spindle post and has been treated with a paste-wax which we import from England. This lamp has been restored to its natural patina and is a delightful dark antique mahogany. This lamp stands slightly over four feet tall. It is available for sale now at $210.
Lamp #2 has a wooden column effect in a light almond color and is a painted wood. It stands five and one-half inches tall. A two-light bulb switch with a capacity of up to 100 watts makes this lamp a perfect light source for a formal living setting. Now on sale at $250.00

inECOFORMS, greenPots, ecofriendly planters will be arriving next week. We will have over 250 planters arriving in various sizes and shapes. Saucers will be available as well. Contessa’s has been offering these biodegradable planters for three years and our customers really like them. Greenpots are colorful, light weight once panted, and have a life span of 5 years. Their extraordinary feature is that they are made from rice hull. If sent to a landfill, once they have exhausted their five years of use, they will totally decompose in our earth. They are suitable for both indoor and outdoor planting. Colors available are Red, Avocado, Harvest, Mocha, Natural, Tan and Black. Our planters range in price from $11 to $25.
